I still cannot think of Ben dying in my arms, without tearing up, and I
am a manly man.
I believe the special ones are those who come into our lives at a time we
need them, or they affect us because of our lives. I am not so sure there
is something special about the dogs, but the event or events going on with
us at that time, or our needs, that let's them touch our hearts.
I know the loss last week of Liz was tragic, and now that I am handling
the estate, it brings the pain back every day.
The line I keep thinking about was from a movie. It was, "I like the world
a little less because he is no longer in it." That has been in my
thoughts often, and getting to be over 70, it happens more and more.
Time does ease the pain, but doesn't dull the memory. The memory of the
love and devotion, the comfort and the joy, and the pure happiness they give
to us.
