Most of us know the many important roles that our regional clubs play in the big picture of our breed. Regional clubs often struggle with attracting and retaining members, however. As we all know, lots of things compete for leisure-time attention (until a person gets hooked, that is!). So, my question is this: In what ways has your club intentionally incorporated fun stuff into your meetings and competitions? I'm not talking about educational seminars (although I love those). I'm talking about just plain fun. Here's an example: Our club, German Shepherd Dog Club of Minneapolis/St. Paul, held it's annual piefest as a feature of our November match last night. Members were invited to bring their favorite pie to share. Those bringing a pie participated in a drawing for a prize. We also had a silent auction during the match. It was like a five ring circus between the pies, the auction, confomation competition, performance competion, and the all-important "ring" in the middle where nervous obedience folks practice, first-time-out puppies are admired, people see folks they haven't seen since the National, and breeding decisions are frequently made. In a word, it was fun. So, what kinds of fun stuff does your club do?
