Along the lines of this recent thread, I remember a letter to the editor I
sent to the Review 11 years ago. To keep it brief here is an exerpt from that
letter which was written October 15, 1995 and published in the January 1996
Review.

Dear Editor:
I am writing to mention an observation I made at a summer Midwestern
specialty show (which I actually have on video tape). A GSD judge was doubling
her
dog (by name) in full view of the judge in the ring. I have nothing against
judges exhibiting their dogs, but I really feel that it's inappropriate and
unethical to identify the dog in the ring by name, and yourself as the owner.
You
might as well just hand the judge a catalog before they carry out their
assignment. Another disturbing case and point is during a previous Midwestern
summer circuit, two judges exhibited under each other one after the other
(within a
month's time frame) and you got it, one hand apparently washed the other.
Unfortunately this trend appears to be on the increase. What is happening the
ethics in dog showing?
Credibility and ethics plays a large part in the future of the novice and
long-term exhibitor.

Just a comment about the two judges apparently doing each other a 'favor'. I
have no proof that this indeed was the case, however, I also remember reading
in The Guidelines for Conformation Dog Show Judges "that judges must avoid
improprieties or PERCIEVED improprieties. The key is to avoid situations that
might give the impression of impropriety."
Therefore the subject that Ed brings up is not a new issue with the fancy,
and unless we police ourselves we are doing our beloved breed a huge disservice.
