It seems "odd" to me that the people who are saying that Rally and PT's are
easy are the same people who we don't see competing in these venues? I do
agree that a RN or PT should not get a club achievement pin. But they
should be recognized by the parent club as a working title.

While I was on the Board this was discussed at previous meeting.
I watched my first rally events in January of last year. Previous to
watching this, I had really no opinion of its joining the list of
requirements for the AOE, only that I had heard grumbling from people that
it was far too easy a thing to achieve to be considered for our Breed's
highest title.
So, I sat there and watched these dogs doing their things off lead with
their owners, and I thought to myself, what were people talking about, while
it looked kind of easy, it wasn't really easy. Later I went back to watch
again. This was a whole different kettle of fish -- I was aghast at how
easy this was -- I mean bring your 14 year old dogs with 3 legs and coax
them through and viola -- an qualifying score. I leaned over and asked what
this class was... they said... Rally Novice.
Apparently what I was watching earlier was the Rally Excellent. So, when
this was discussed at the Board level, removing the RN from the
qualifications for an AOE, I agreed with Dalene -- Rally Novice is TOO EASY
to be associated with the top title in our breed. I think it was a little
odd they didn't contact Helen prior to this decision being made, but IMO,
it's the right thing.
Before anyone gets on me now, about Herding being "easy" -- there is no
comparison to the easiness of the RN -- and frankly, I don't think it's
unacceptable that a dog have a minimum of a PT to qualify for their AOE --
if a dog can get an HT, they can get a PT -- this is a GSD after all.
I'm also not saying that anyone's accomplishments in Rally are not worthy --
I applaud you for your work and efforts in working your dogs -- but how many
of you just stop at that first title in Rally???? Again, this is a GSD,
surely you can get 2 or more levels of Rally.

I was in attendance at the Board meeting in Lexington and the way I
understood the final motion was that only Rally Novice was not going to be
considered as meeting the criteria for AOE. The other Rally titles would
still
qualify as meeting the criteria. I was just an observer but it was
presented
as a recommendation by?? now I am not sure who -- and I guess I thought it
had been run by the AOE chair the way the report went -- I guess we will
have to wait for the Board O Gram or maybe the minutes--or another board
member to be sure.
