Ed, I totally agree with you and Dave that ethics and morality begin at home.?
Most of us grew up, maybe not fearing our parents, but fearing those words "I
am so disappointment with you."? I would rather have my Mom or Dad yell at me
than get quiet and show their disappointment.? And,?if any of you have watched
Shaq's show, you know what I mean.??The trainers and doctors are the?tough guys
and Shaq shows approval or disappointment to the kids, which seems to be
working.? Ok, the show is cheesy but here is a good role model.? Not to mention
he is a Reserve Police Officer.? Wish there were more Shaq's out there to
provide those role models.? ??
That said, I do have an issue with someone who uses their race or culture or
upbringing as an excuse for their behavior.? That is what it is leaning toward
with VicK.? No matter your race or culture, one knows the difference between
right and wrong.? You can blame your race, culture, upbringing, whatever.? But,
unless you are a sociopath, you know what you are doing is wrong and choose to
do it anyway.
Linsay Lohan and Paris Hilton are really no different than O.J. and Vick.? They
know what they are doing is wrong.? They think they are invincible and will get
away with it because of their?celebrity.? Their crimes may?not be as serious
but the attitude is the same.? Blame it on someone else and take no
responsibility for your actions.??
So, is this a race issue or is it just the crumbling of the ethics and
morality?of society as a whole?? I go with society.? Vick is not a stupid man
or he would not be in the NFL.? He made a choice to become involved in
dogfighting, knowing it was wrong.? That is on him and him alone.? Lindsay,
Paris and the like, choose to get drunk and stupid, not hire drivers, which
they can afford, get into trouble and drop into Rehab to make?everything ok.????
Ed, your son is an good example of being taught right from wrong, accepting
responsibilty and being a postitive contributing member of society.? This is
the same son who is?a?Umpire?? Anyway,?we may not win parent of the year awards
but when we aren't reading about our kids in the paper or bailing them out of
jail, we did good :-)? JMHO?

Like it or not, because we live in a nation polarized by race many times simple
issues get clouded by race. The O.J.Simpson trial 12 years ago is a classic
example. Now many are concluding that Vick's behavior in fighting dogs is
inspired by his ethic and /or gangsta-rap-hip-hop culture. A ridiculous
conclusion. Most blacks don't fight dogs and most black males ( me included)
don't murder their ex-wives ( sorry O.J.). If the charges against Vick are
true,
and so far the "duck theory" is in play. It's not because of where he comes
from, he's guilty because of what ever or whom ever shaped his moral
personality...usually it happens by the age of 12. Dave Fritche talked about
the
external police and the internal police ( Dave is very smart...I listen to
everything he says)...no one trained Mr. Vick's internal police officer...who's
at fault?...I don't know...things like this usually start with mom and dad (
usually does not mean always)...I'm not a shining example of what a
father should be either, but I bet my son will never be involved with dog
fighting or any other animal cruelty...I raised rabbits a few years back for
dog
food...He called me sick!...after a few months I couldn't do it any more so I
sold my rabbits and hutches. Now the big sports story is the NBA referee who is
being indicted for fixing or shaving points in NBA games...the ref happens to
be
white...I'm waiting for the stories to come out about his middle-class
background and how he was influenced by "rock" music! and that's what lead to
him fixing basketball games!.....agree or disagree I think you get my
point...sports writers and other journalists can blame Vick's behavior on what
ever they want to...Vick did what he did cuz that's who he is and that's what
he
wanted to do....plan and simple...life is simple, we just go out of our way to
