Following in the same line of thought as Chris K., I too am very happy with
Cappy, Gloria and Maryellen's comments and research presented in the latest
Review. I found it very interesting how many bitches would not have received a
ROM in all those different years, had the current "increased qualifications"
being presented were used. I found it staggering. And yet the only comment I
continue to hear regarding why a "proposed" change is money/cost. That is so
PATHETIC! Now money is an issue but easily solved, as quoted in the article.
The parent club can issue a certificate of ROM ACHIEVEMENT and a trophy could
be purchased by the breeder/owners. PROBLEM SOLVED! Having said this, does
anyone know if there were other considerations mentioned? (In Private?, Behind
the CLOSED DOORS?, or Just in Passing? In Committee?)
My concern here is that why would such a proposal ever come to fruition? Were
the group of people who sat and discussed and proposed such a thing, BREEDERS
of GERMAN SHEPHERDS! I hope that the other committees involved with the GSD
breed are not made up financial people who are only going to look at the bottom
line rather than our beautiful breed. I really think we need to be more
careful of our suggestions and proposed changes when it comes to our standard,
history, and big picture of the Breed. Just because we won't be here when it
goes into effect is no reason to support something. Money is NEVER the
ultimate reason for making decisions that will affect a breed for years to
come. I am in no way unappreciative of the many volunteers who work on these
committee's but would hope that the Executive Board Members would be cautious
with their appointments and suggestions and oversight in these matters.
I believe I can have my opinion because Keggi Fair has breed 3 ROM bitches and
owned one and showed her and completed her ROM for another breeder. Our ROM's
are more important than our Championships. It shows how hard the breeders have
worked with their own kennel and others to accomplish such a title.
