The last month has been very busy, with the distribution of the food donations
from Timberwolf Organics as well as the ongoing story unfolding with Faith's
Hope and Monty; the GSD who was struck by a train in NJ!
Monty is with his foster Mom and through a special fundraising effort between
Faith's Hope and LHSH, we have been able to ease Rosemary's mind by sending her
a check for 711$ with more on the way! Monty has lost one ear and the ability
to walk at this time. He will be given a wheelchair while he continues to
recover from this horrific accident. Throughout all of his treatment, Monty has
continued to maintain his sweetness. This young GSD has many people now pulling
for him!
Zena is resting happily at Joe Maringos (SPARRO) and in probably the first
time in her 17 years enjoying the warmth of a fire. She was abandoned at a kill
facility by her owners..blind, deaf and terribly arthritic. Due to Joe's
dedication (a valued member of our Board of Directors), Zena she found herself
in the back of his van on soft cushions and heading home to PA. She has already
made her presence known at the local Petsmart!
Zena is receiving treatment for her arthritis and getting the much needed love
and attention she so deserves.
Noel, the GSD who was left chained and starved in Marion Cty, SC has gained
more than
20 pounds! An extensive medical exam and xrays revealed that both front legs
and hip as well as many other bones in this poor girl had been broken and
allowed to heal without medical attention. LHSH suspects that Noel had been
used as a bait dog, due to the ripped ears and generally horrific condition
that she was found in. Noel is receiving medication for her discomfort and her
surgery for the shattered hip will be scheduled as soon as she is strong
enough. She has discovered that sleeping on a bed is the BEST place to be and
is in love with Nick's K9 dog, Gage who rolls on his back for her! Noel is
merely 2 years old with hopefully many more years ahead.
Portia and Lexi are enjoying their lives in their Pennsylvania home. Portia now
towers over her "mom", and it appears that the days spent in the North Carolina
woods with an imbedded collar are a distant memory. Their new Mom and Dad are
often entertained by their antics!
The GSD who was surrendered to a Georgia kill facility covered in mud and
feces; pulled on New Years day, subsequently gave birth Jan 2 to 12 squealing
babies. Her Guardian Angel Carla barely had time to wash the filth from her
body when she went into whelp. Two were lost...mom developed a uterine
infection...and Carla had to take over the job of feeding all 10 babies. This
gal is blind in one eye and was deliberatley starved by her owners who thought
she was "too fat"...Mom and babies are now doing well!!! LHSH was able to
provide the funds needed for special food for Mom and babies and will be
covering the cost of her spay and vaccinations.
These are but a few of the stories of hope and survival against all odds that
we are blessed to have witnessed and been able to assist due to the generous
donations we continue to receive. While we are all struggling through tough
economic times, the dogs pay the ultimate price if we do not have the funding
that enables the rescues to say "We can take this one"...The members of Last
Hope, Safe Haven Inc, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your
continued support.
