Thank you Jen Your advice had a large part in my decision to go forward with the surgery at this time. I went to two different specialists, read all that I could on the possible prognosis for him and decided to do it now while heâs healthy. This is a huge blow to my breeding program as his lines were lines that would have melded beautifully with my female. I have found an older version of the line (actually would be my dogâs great-great uncle) and Iâm hoping that the genetic flaw has come from another line that was introduced afterward. The surgeon who treated him thinks that if all heals as it should that he will have a good life even though we will not be doing IPO or agility with him. He will be doing competitive tracking (in both CKC and SV), his BH, his CD, his RN and herding. I may also throw him into an altered class or two as he is stunning. And if that isnât enough to keep him busy, he will be the regular watchdog here to report in on any squirrels, chipmunks, groundhogs, deer, bear and moose that pass through the property. Sadly, there's not a darned thing we as owners can do to prevent it either; it's a developmental disease. If all the other pups are radiographed and found clean, they are okay. Kinda scary to think ALL dogs run around for the first 4-6 months with their Anconeal processes ununited !!! I have known a few dogs with UAP who run around their entire lives and never see a lame day. Sadly, I have also seen dogs be crippled by it as well. I hope your boy is one of the former and does well that he had the surgery. The hips were excellent. Unfortunately, the elbows both showed UAP. He had never had a lame day in his life. There was no evidence of elbow problems in his pedigree and the balance of the litter has not shown evidence of UAP YET. He had not shown any evidence of Pano. -- JayDee's Proud-Haus Shepherds/Proud K911 Canine Consulting Committed to the Total Dog you can be Proud of!!! www.jaydeesphs.com Support the next generation's stewards for the sport of dogs...
