Most of what you say is definitely the facts Jen. Some States are worse than
others. California has
a high ranking for ridiculous bills IMO.
I've got to say though...that some of us have fought long and hard....written
letters....gone to the Capital
to show force...written more letters....e-mailed individuals, clubs and groups
and made phone calls.
Paul unfortunately is right also.
They literally wear you down by waiting....making a few 'adjustments' and come
back at you with another bill
or the same bill with some small changes and a new bill number to confuse you.
It is like stomping on little
wildfires while the forest burns...very discouraging and tiring...and often
disappointing. After a while you
feel like they are winning no matter what....and just about give it up.
Most of us are more than willing to battle.....but overtime just almost give it
up as the letters and petitions and
calls get you "canned" replies and no "ears" that really listen....and so we
are constantly losing the war in
small increments just as Paul says.

If there was some way we could get a "canned" petition where we could just
sign them by the thousands
over the internet.....and they are immediately sent to the correct State
Legislatures.....that is the only way
I can see that we will ever get huge numbers to respond to each bad
bill.........there is just no other way
we can continually keep up with the highly paid Lobbyists and public ignorance
on this problem.

Not only that nastiness, I think the general public should know that they have
their PAC people hanging out in the different legislatures wherever they see
something introduced that they want to fight, or just flat out bother the
agriculture committees (usually) until they say: fine we will look at your
bill - in hopes that will make the people go away- at least it gets them out of
the committee's office and that's all the care about! (And that's how your
state legislature works, y'all... LOL but so sadly true)
The ones who can't come mass-email their legislature to make sure their letters
for their views are counted.
I wonder how many of those seemingly insane to us bills would be even make it
out of committee if there was as much opposition or more than there was for the
proposition --where it would go then ??
If we all sent our form letters to our legislature when laws came up, so we and
our view would be counted... If those of us went to the committee meetings and
said "oh no that's insane" just once... The difference each of us would make to
gain back the ground for animal welfare (aka well-being is how I easily explain
it to these poor hoodwinked people) that animal Wrongists have taken away from
us.
I find it really creepy that PeTA comes in and makes this big raid, fills up
someone else's local shelter until the media dies down, and then most of those
seized animals are euthanized after that. Sickens me they leave suffering
animals or worse yet begin to treat them until they get done with their
publicity and then put an animal down when it's half way through a treatment
and would otherwise be placeable from that shelter, but the shelter doesn't own
the animals, PeTA does! Just AWFUL

Well, John is right in that PeTA and HSUS lobbyists (in every state capitol and
in major cities) aren’t concerned with elder or child abuse. I don’t they are
truly concerned with animal abuse either (PeTA kills almost all animals that
are placed in the VA “shelter.”). They are concerned with the donations that
the headlines of supposed animal abuse brings them. I do believe most of
those who have been hornswoggled by the Animal Rights groups care about the
animals, but in an anthropomorphic way, not as “natural” animals.

I agree Molly but as we all know elder, child, and animal abuse is not a care
or concern of the lobbyists much less the Obama Administration. Writing letters
and follow up phone calls to State Senators, congressional delegation, and the
media will be much more effective.

except.....children are humans. They have guardians.
Animals are property, they are owned.

again, its the entire issue of rights of property and I don't want that touched
with my animals. I am their advocate and owner. Nothing should ever be in
question about that.

If one animal is represented then ALL animals must be represented - just as
those with diminished capacity or children. How would that be even possible?
I don’t believe we’ve lost the war yet, but we do certainly need to understand
what is happening and it DOES impact all GSD owners… about time to stretch the
minds and become aware.

Just finished an article for the Review on this subject. Will not detail it
here, because I no longer own it, but there are greater issues then us vs. HSUS
& PETA.
Just to say that our society is shifting and the world view of the past is no
longer a universal concept in America. The right to own property, whether an
animal or a house or anything is shifting. It was the basis of the revolution –
from power by the ruler to power from the people was a magnificent and freeing
thing. But increasingly we are being challenged by the collectivistic view of
property as belonging to the state and the attending opening for elite groups
to empower themselves to ‘speak for the animals,’ or ‘allocate personal wealth’
to those who do not have any or…. It is a war and I do not know how it will
turn out.

If animals have human status then our entire philosophical structure falls and
the owning of any property is suspect.

Most of you know my take on all this, so…. Being a conservative is also
daunting but not uncertain.
