It means there are private arrangements made between the owner of the stud
and the owner of the bitch for each breeding....some pay a big fee, some pay
less, some may breed for a puppy, etc., and some bitches may be refused
service at all.
The term is borrowed from the horse world, where it means the same thing.
This is all as opposed to an announced stud fee, which
basically means the dog is at public stud, and available to anyone with the
money to pay the fee.
