I agree Kathy. When my mom and I had our litter we started shots at 6 weeks. We
took extra caution going to shows like my mom would take shoes off outside and
bleach them and would change and wash hands thoroughly before even going down
stairs to see the pups I wouldn't even see the pups since I didn't have clothes
to change into got in my car and left. I even kept a pair of shoes at my moms
that I would put on before I saw the puppies knowing they were safe new shoes.
Some would say we were overly cautious but I never take chances. I talked with
4 people that I meant in stores saying they just lost their litter to parvo.

That's fine if you are growing them all out, don't leave your place to go
to a dog show and don't allow puppy folks to visit after 6 weeks. I don't
take chances. I use Forte Dodge puppy shot at 6 weeks and 2 days before 8
weeks. Puppies that are leaving are allowed to go to their new homes after 8
weeks in PA. PA also wants rabies at 12 weeks now. I prefer new owners
don't combine rabies w/ a puppy booster, but I realize my control is limited
(like none) once a puppy leaves.

Dr. Jean Dodds recommends not vaccinating puppies until 9 weeks. Then
again at 12 weeks, 16-20 weeks and at a year. After that, she checks titers.
She uses modified live vaccines, Intervet Proguard Puppy. She gives rabies at
24 weeks and again at a year, then using the killed 3-year vaccine. She
ALWAYS separates the rabies shot from Distemper/Parvo booster by 3 or 4
weeks.
My vet wanted to give rabies with the Distemper/Parvo booster at a year
and gave me a raised-eyebrow look when I insisted we wait four weeks before
giving the rabies shot.
Dr. Dodds doesn't recommend any other vaccines unless the disease is
endemic in a particular area or kennel.
