I admit, I am new. Showinmg six years, breeding 4 years.
Finished 2 Champions, 2 others Major pointed.
First bitch I bought as a "showable" pet (and half German,
out of GV Unlimited) with her breeders being VERY honest
and telling me to look for an older dog (she was 5 months)
but I was too stubborn and got her anyway. She is now a
titled Champion.
Her first litter I bred kept a girl, placed all other pups
in pet homes. The girl I kept went Reserve Best in
Futurity under Jamie Walker, completed her Championship w/
2- 5 point Majors/BOB over Specials.
2nd litter I bred, gave away a male. He was singled out at
& MONTHS of age (owner handled), Major at 14 months, has 2
MAjor Reserves, needs 1 Major to finish at 20 months, 2
Group placings)
His sister I kept, just got her first Major two weeks ago,
and has single points, and a group placing owner handled
(Major she was handled by Lenny Brown)
All the other pups are in pet homes.
Third litter out of R/Best in Futurity Ch bitch that I bred
(2nd generation now for my line), I gave away a girl to a
friend on a co-own, "if" she turns out and passes OFA I
will get to breed her once for her 2nd litter. If not, then
she will be spayed. She has 3 Specialty Match Best Puppy
wins. She is onlly 8 months old, so time will tell. Her
owner does not have alot of money, so she has not been
shown much, and will be handled by a Junior. But she will
be shown, and if I can I will help her too if the girl
turns out. I kept her till 14 weeks beofre I made my final
decision, and kept her sister for myself. There was a male
also, who I sold at my "pet" price who will be shown as
well with the owners understanding that he was not
"guaranteed" to finish but showed promise. If he does not
turn out, he will be a wonderful pet.
My last litter I bred, I kept a male back (placed others in
pet homes). He is a repeat of the male who singled out at 7
months I kept a male. A "good" pet home came along whose
owner use to be a proffessional handler and use to
show/breed Kerry Blues, had BIS show dogs, etc,. They are
willing to hire a handler, and finish his Championship "if"
he turns out. I lowered my "pet" price sicne they were
willing to show. If he is good enough (he just turned 6
months) and earns a MAjor reserve, his mother Leah should
earn her ROM title.
"Show" pups are a big game. I have been VERY fortunate
that I have done so well so quickly. I have had GREAT
Mentors, Terry Cochran, Ruth Schuebler, Charlie Mardecz,
Pam Roose, and MANY more people who have helped me with
training, learning about lines/sturucture, etc. My FIRST
priority is that all my dogs are put in good HOMES, and if
they are willing to show GREAT. I am not comfortable
selling a pup to a "breeding" home, so I have had pups that
"could" have been shown go to "pet" homes instead. And if
I do place a "show" pup than I ALWAYS make sure people know
that a dog "may" not turn out, just as my girl Leah's
breeder told me since show puppies are only a promise, not
a guarantee.

Forgive me here....
I still don't understand the way of "reducing" prices for "show pups" and
charging the general public....more for a pet, a family member.
