Stormy and Lisa, First I would like to say how sorry I am to hear this news about the pup. It keeps going through my mind that the shots the pup received may have been from a bad batch, OR too many things were done at one time. I had an Aussie X years ago who had his shots (too many at one time). Several days later he started bleeding profusely from his nose and mouth and was near death. I rushed him to the vet where he was treated with Prednisone and other medications. He pulled through probably because he was about a year old at the time. Let me tell you though, it changed his life forever. He had to live on pred, had to have blood tests every couple of months, he was deaf after that bout of shots. Even my vet thinks it was because he received too many shots. His life was shortened because of the prednisone he HAD to be on to keep his white(?) blood count where it should be. Needless to say, I am NOT a big advocate of vaccines. Again, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of a beautiful, young pup. Well, the bad news is the little puppy (11 1/2 weeks old) died this morning. Here is everything I know about the history of the puppy. Any input would be greatly appreciated. The puppy had first set of shots and was wormed with the breeder - no reaction, everything fine. Puppy was purchased at 8 weeks old. Puppy was eating solid foods and drinking, no problems. He was 14.7 pounds at time of purchase. At 10 1/2 weeks old, puppy was brought back to vet for check up, etcetera. Puppy was given second puppy shot, bordatella and a fecal was taken. Round worms were detected. Puppy treated with Drontal. He was 16.9 pounds Puppy brought home from vet - eating well, stool normal, everything fine. People buy puppy pigs ear, which he eats. People's son lets puppy get into bag of jelly beans. Three days from vet visit, after pigs ear and jelly beans, puppy starts showing signs of lethargy. Still eating solid foods, good solid stool. Five days from vet visit, puppy still eating, still good bowel movements, now throwing up water about 20 minutes after it drinks, does not throw up food. September 3, 2011 - people bring puppy back to vet who tells them they are about to close and to bring puppy to emergency vet in upper New York State, which is where they live. They do so. E-vet runs tests and does x-rays, notes pigs ear consumed. X-rays show no blockage. NO PARVO - He tested negative. Blood tests are unremarkable except glucose is elevated indicating sign of infection. (No antibiotics are given) They do not have ultrasound machine so tell people to take him to a third vet to get more testing done. This is when they called me when they couldn't get a hold of their breeder. I had spoken to them prior to their making a purchase of the puppy and they thought I was nice so they thought I might be able to help them. Very late last night, I told them they should take him to a third emergency vet. I heard from them this morning that they wanted to come and see my vet. They drove from upper New York State with the pup to my home. The pup died enroute to my home. When they got here with the little guy, he was on a light green bath towel. It was covered in dark red (see almost black) blood, which was pouring out of the pup's nose and mouth. (He had only been gone a few minutes.) The little guy's belly was not bloated. It was soft and you could palpate his belly. He was a very big substantial looking puppy. Unfortunately, my vet's office was closed today for the holiday weekend. I am trying to help these people find answers as to what caused this. ------------------------------ End of showgsd-l Digest V5 #1697 ******************************** ============================================================================ POST is Copyrighted 2011.
