think this is a little too much. Kathy, for one seems to me to have a very
valid reason for having the breed of dog she chose to have to defend her
property and family and dogs. Without Godzilla or the like.

Thank you Kris, and I really do know that Evan was defending my choice, with
humor, and a smile.
Most of our friends know that I am here alone often, and I am a sitting duck
because, well how to pick up a disabled child and a five year old and make a
run for it??? I cannot have guns in the house at this time, with two
teenage boys and a VERY inquisitive young Hunter...not safe, no way. I lost
my
own brother many years ago to a gun accident, and he and my Dad hunted
together, and he was taught gun safety....a moments inattention with a gun in
the
hands of a teenage brother, and he was gone. Guns and minors do not mix.

Also what folks may forget, is that we don't all live in places like Orange
County, or San Diego, or Nirvana....we live in a basically rural setting, and
some of the area's residents are very...."interesting" most in our
immediate vicinity are good people, hard working...but there is an element that
 hangs
out at my neighbor's that would keep you awake at night. Not good people,
people with criminal records , people who have been busted for major drug use,
burglary, assault. People that are so out of it that they walk around
shouting at.....nobody. People that look like they killed and ate their
parents....

Ken and I also run cross country..usually separate because of schedules..the
area is remote. You can neither see nor hear anyone who is out there, except
for the fringes of the reserve. It is so remote and rugged that I carry not
only a pack with water, but a signaling mirror, and a whistle and compass.
I always make sure that Ken is aware of what I am wearing and my expected
time back...or if I am home alone, I leave a note in the house describing
same.
And no, cell phones are spotty at best.
There are four legged predators, coyotes, bobcats, mountain lions, but
the two legged predators are the most dangerous. There are people that hunt
in the area (which is prohibited) and drink and run dirt bikes around (also
prohibited) so a lone blonde running out there, would seem a great deal of
fun , and easy to harass. I can tell you could easily hide a body anywhere in
that reserve..so the Ovtcharka who is meant for rugged, extreme terrain will
become my running companion in a few months.
So hence my choice of a "LEVEL TEN" security dog. I sleep better, and all
of "them" know that this dog is NOT to be trifled with...she reminds them of
it everytime one of them is in sight, even from 400 feet away..
She is undeterred by a kind word , or any overture used to sway her. She
trusts no stranger near our place, as she should not, according to breed
standard. She makes it very clear "GO AWAY, OR ELSE".

A breed not for most of the population, that is for sure. But ideally suited
for our needs. And with whom we take great care and responsibility.
