Ken, if I understand correctly, the term "private club" in one used by the
government and law to distinguish any group of people organized for a
purpose, that is not governmental or organized as a business. That is, in
law, certain things are true for the general public in relationship to the
law of the land - rights and responsibilities granted and protections
offered by law. But when a group of people decide that they are going to
meet in private, for a specific non-governmental or public purpose and
express that purpose with membership requirements, they are, thus private as
opposed to public. Courts have referred to dog clubs as "private clubs."
Thus 501(c)3 is a private status not a public corporation or governmental
entity.
Of course that is just my current opinion and I would be glad to listen to
an attorney on it!!!!!!!!!!!!
