Long ago and far away, the subject of breeding GSDs often was the cause of many
lively discussions among my circle of dog people. There were so many factors
to consider in the endeavor. But to keep it short, an eight word statement
always surfaced.
We are breeding to preserve not improve.
I liked the idea that Col. Von Stepanitz (sp) created this breed for certain
traits, and when finally done, stepped back and was very pleased. He wanted
this perfect dog to remain true, not to eventually become a different breed.
Not that it has. I like trying to preserve this breed especially the part about
the special "Character" they show. Unlike any other breed.
