Two things, I had a bitch they saw one or two puppies with the
ultrasound.....she had twelve a few weeks later.
As far as Pyrometrea, the same bitch after having the pups started losing
pups. Lost almost half the litter over a course of three/four days. No fever,
eating taking care of pups, discharge normal. I thought something was worng.
My vet to ease my worries, had get her blood drawn to get a white count to see
if she has an infection. Her white cell count was extremely high, she did get
Pyrometrea.
If it were my bitch, I would get her blood drawn first, see what her levels
are. If they are normal, don't spay her. Wait till her due date, see what
happens. Get another opinion if she is still unsure. And then if the fluid is
still there, and there are no pups then take things from there.

A friend of mine has a GS bitch...about seven weeks along. She had an
ultrasound at four weeks and they thought that they saw one puppy. She had
another a week later and they did not see any. She just had another one done
and they see no puppies but a lot of fluid. She is acting normal, playing and
eating well, no discharge of any kind and all her bloodwork is normal. The vet
is trying to tell my friend that she has pyrometra...but she is acting fine and
has no fever. the vet wants to spay her and my friend does not know what to do.
Her question is this...will you see a lot of fluid in the uterous during a
false pregnancy. Is there a chance that she could have pyrometra without acting
sick or having a fever?? She needs some opinions from thers so that she can
make a decision. TIA.
