  Emails have been circulating today regarding the OFFICIAL BILL "status".
I spoke with Peter Detwiler (from Local Government Committee) this morning.
He told me that he had spoken to the Senate Committee Secretary to make
certain that the corrected information was there.  I explained that "no" the
information is still inaccurate.  Then, Peter and I both checked the website
again.

  He is going to address this matter first thing tomorrow morning so that
the information can be corrected.  In the meantime, AB1634 is "still" in
Local Government.  It will be heard at 8am on Wednesday, 11 July, in Room
112.  There will be no changes to this information despite what may have
appeared on the "status" listed today!

  Then, I asked him further questions.  I wanted to know "if" this bill can
be stopped at the Committee level.  Here are some of his comments.  I tried
to write notes as quickly as possible while we were speaking.

  Mr. Detwiler explained that we may hear "Do Pass" or "Do Pass as Amended"
in which case it goes to the Committee on Appropriations since it is a
fiscal bill.  Three votes will be needed "only if moved".  It is only
necessary for "one" Senator to move the bill.  It does "not" required a 2nd
Senator to so motion.  Only "one" Senator is required.

  Here is an example:  Let's say a Senator makes a motion.  Then, the Chair
will call for a vote.  You will hear the Committee Secretary say the Chair's
name.  Then, the Chair will vote.  Then, you will hear the Committee
Secretary repeat back that Senator's name and their vote.  Then, the
Committee Secretary will say the next person's name and again repeat back
their name and vote ... and ... so on.  At the end of this process, the
Committee Secretary will tell the Chair the vote ... and then ... the Chair
will announce the vote.  That is when it is official.

  At this point, we may hear "Motion passes" or "Motion fails" or "The bill
is with us."  The latter "The bill is with us" means "The bill is dead!"

  "If" there is no motion, "then" there is no vote.  The bill doesn't go
forward.

  "If" there is a motion, "then" we want to hear less than 3 AYES!

  [Note from Brat:  I hope the above makes sense.  I was writing in
shorthand as quickly as possible.  Mr. Detwiler was extremely helpful.  He
is going to return to his work on the bill today and I promised to send out
an announcement to advise that the "status" information is incorrect.]
