This sounds like we have our own Breed Warden. I have put dogs through the ATTS Temperament Test, and the GSDCA Temperament Test. I have never, ever had a tester in either venue ask who bred my dog, or if I planned to breed. In my opinion that is none of a tester's business. He or she is there to evaluate the temperament of my dog on that given day. Period. I also think there should be new testers being trained at all times using Bob Penny's standards. Am I the only one who was disturbed by this? I wasn't too disturbed by it. I've run dogs through w/ 4 different evaluators, Bob being the first and we had a conversation about my dog after the Paul Root portion of the test <VBG> but before I had my score sheet. I was a nervous wreck, my first National and I was absolutely thrilled MR. PENNY, "call me Bob", would take the time <G>. I can think of another time I ran 2 finished girls through, "ran" being the operative word because loose leash and by my side wasn't happening on the show grounds with these two, lol, and comments were made about their condition and their accomplishments of the one gal (when the evaluator looked at the titles on the sheet). Come to think about it, we did discuss the pedigree of the one following the test and score as we walked back to the start line where I could put her away and he picked up the next dog and handler team. So what? I was flattered more than anything. Another time w/ a Jim son and the evaluator said "German"? Geeze the head the size of a small table give it away, lol? I didn't take offense. We do a test at our RC every other year Marcia and I'm always at one station or another. I've seen/heard evaluators give direction/encouragement especially when a handler is obviously green. I've heard them talk to break the tension. People get nervous! I've also seen them take someone aside at the end and speak privately. I always took it as trying to be helpful, nothing more. Now, if we want to make it so that the evaluators have the demeanor of an obedience judge, then that is something that needs to be discussed. But because in one instance, someone took it hard when an evaluator thought a bitch was soft...I don't know if I would change things. (Remember, there's probably at least three sides.) Case in point, I recently reminded an OB judge what she said to me when a rather young bitch got a third leg for an OB title; it was years ago but the memory was etched in my mind as part of a memorable day, (she told me to breath!). This judge said "No way, I never say anything like that, all I say is, are you ready, give the command, exercise finished". So if you asked either of us, we have a very different recollection!
