I fed Solid Gold years ago when the founder Sissy Harrington-McGill made sure
the ingredients were the same as Germany fed their Great Danes.  Later my
dogs started having problems diarrhea and later several passed away due to
Cancer.  I changed to
Breeders Choice Dog Food and have been feeding this to my dogs ever since.
Solid
Gold is manufactured now by Diamond which years ago was not but was CA based.

I own and read a book I have owned since the 1980's How to Have a Healthy by
Wendell O. Belfield, DVD.  In this book he refers to 4-D animals being used in
Dog Food and the only state that had regulations against their usage was CA.
At the time I did not know that just because the Company was based in CA that
the dog food could be made somewhere else.

My 6 ½ year old male shepherd was diagnosed with Perianal Fistulas the
beginning of February 2012. Just prior to taking him to the vet my husband
noticed a streak of blood on the outside of his stool on and off for a
couple of weeks. We took him to our vet and after a complete exam determined
he has them. She treated him with Cefpodoxime, Pepcid AC, Prednisone,
Atopica and Protopic. He has finished the Cefpodoxime and she had us give
him the Pred every day for a month and then every other day for a couple of
weeks and then every third day until last week and now heâ??s back to one Pred
twice a day and weâ??re giving him one Pepcid before he gets the Pred. She
added Hepato â?? 2 capsules twice a day every 12 hours. This afternoon we
noticed a streak of blood on the stool.

Has anyone gone through this with their dog and used the same stuff weâ??re
using or used a different treatment? How long did it take to clear up? Our
vet told us she consulted with a specialist who recommended giving him
Hepato. She also mentioned that if found early it can be cleared up in three
or fours months.

In reading the last Showgsd comments, I noticed people are talking about
Solid Gold. I feed my dog Solid Gold Wolf King. Does anyone know if anything
has changed in making this kibble and could this be a problem causing the
fistulas? I donâ??t have any trouble with him eating it and he has solid
stools.

Any feedback directly to me would be greatly appreciated.
