Jane,
This is perfect. Bless your Irish Grandmother! I rarely repost things said
by other folks, but this is just perfect.
Thank you all, who did (and continue to do) the right thing. Keep washing
your faces, playing with your dogs and doing the right thing-no matter how
painful. I can't speak for the rest of the membership, but I appreciate the
fact that you go on.
Again, thank you, Jane, for reminding us all of what we, ideally, should be
doing.

Thank you for doing "the next right thing".
One morning I asked my sainted Irish Grandmother how to handle trouble.
She said, sitting at the kitchen table drinking a cup of Irish Green Tea,
"Jane, you just do the 'next right thing.' Yesterday is over, God does not
promise tomorrow to anyone, but you can handle today much better if you just
do the next right thing."
"How do I know what *is* the best right thing," I asked.
"Well, Jane, when you awaken in the morning, say your prayers, wash your
face, let the little German Shepherd puppy Dog out to play, and decide to
have orange juice, your vitamins, toast and a cup of Irish Green Tea for
Breakfast."
"You need," she continued, "to exercise your 'thinking' muscles and your
'ethical' muscles on some of the simpler things like toast and tea so that
you will be in better condition to make sound decisions when you are
confronted with some of the harder things in life.
You take a forest full of trouble one tree at a time. Remember the Sahara
Forest became the Sahara Desert just that way........... one tree at a time.
Just do 'the next right thing', whatever it is."
"But, Grandmother, " I want to eat a Twinkie and a Coke for Breakfast", I
replied stupidly, and rambling on, "I don't even like Irish Green Tea or
Irish setters."
"What is the matter with you?", she shrieked.
( Her red hair stood up straight on her head, looking much like a cat who
had its' tail caught under her rocking chair.)
"Listen, kid," she went on, "Even your sainted German Grossmutter wants you
to say your prayers, wash your face, let the little German Shepherd Dog
puppy out to play and then back in the house and eat a good breakfast !!
You better learn how to do 'the next right thing' that way, so that when it
really matters, you will know what to do !!"
So, *now* I wake up in the morning, wash my face, let the little German
Shepherd Dog puppy out to play, and eat a breakfast of orange juice,
vitamins, toast and a cup of Irish Green Tea.......and try really hard to do
"the next right thing" and then do "the next right thing"............
...........whatever it is.
(I try and fail often enough, as do we all. Amen??)
I don't know if Sharon, Tish and Carolyn had Irish Green Tea for breakfast,
but I am pretty sure it wasn't a Twinkie and a Coke.
They got up this morning, washed their faces, ate a good breakfast, then
went to their computers and gave the members of the German Shepherd Dog Club
of America (and others) information.
Free flow of information helps folks make decisions so that we will all "do
the next right thing".........whatever it is.
My Uncle Cliff and Uncle Tom both loved a good, heated, and open political
discussion on events and issues. They never missed the opportunity to
"discuss" with one another, because "discussing" is a good thing.
They would be proud of Sharon, Tish and Carolyn.
I am too.
