Randy,

I agree with you.? There are A**holes in every breed.? That is not my point.?
My point is what people think is based on their experiences with people in our
breed.? Because we have a large split between German dogs, American show dogs
and pets, most folks who get GSD's don't feel they even have a chance to show,
so why bother.? That and they get no direction or support of the GSD
fancier's.? Most of us started out with pets.? Some of us are stubborn and kept
going.? But, I would be willing to bet that 99% of the folks that got dogs they
thought they could show, gave up after the first show.? How is that a good
thing?

Breeder judges are not a bad thing in theory.? But, it is very confusing to
newbies.? A good AB dog can't win in specialties and a good specialty dog may
or may not win in AB shows, depending on what the Judge thinks will be the best
representative for the public.? Talk about mixed messages.? This is something
not so prevelent in other breeds.? So, how can a newbie think it's not
elitist????

I am just?saying that as show people, we do nothing to encourage people and
more to disuade them.??If y'all don't see that, then you are burying your heads
in the sand.??I don't know the answers.?? I have posted about mentoring.? Have
mentored myself and have gone into co-ownership with Juniors so they could show
GSD's.? I have done everything I know to help get people get involved in
showing but with minimal support.? So, I?am starting to switch breeds myself,
after 16 yrs of owning GSD's.

I?love my GSD's? and have had moderate success, but am looking elsewhere for
conformation.? I am a show addict so this says alot.? So, I guess it is reality
for me.?

Laura Thomas???

Luanne,
I have been pondering how to answer Kathy's post and you said it right.? I
show in lots of AB shows.? I have friends in many breeds.? They all love the
GSD but most won't touch them.? Why?? So many reasons.? They want to show
their own dogs.? They don't have an "IN" with the GSD people.? They feel they
are
looked down upon for having a different breed.? They have been shut down by
GSD people when they wanted to know more about the breed and showing.? And, I
am talking about people already in the show world that know better than to
bother someone when their dog is in the ring.

I have had many show people tell me about the GSD they grew up with but
would never show one because of the politics.? I have had people tell me how
we

have the highest percentage of breeder judges at AB show than any other
breed.? The reasons?go on and on.? And, that doesn't even start to examine the
newbie and mentoring issues.?

Perception or reality?? Hmmm.? And, what have we done to change it???

Laura Thomas?

From the resent posts concerning this topic it seems to me that we are
destroying ourselves from within. "Back in the day" it wasn't much different
than
it is now. Same OLE s--t being mouthed by the same kind of defeatists we
have today.

I have always loved the GSD, and defy anyone who talks ill of our breed,
especially those who are supposed to be its defenders. There has always been
groups that intentionally go out of their way to bad mouth the GSD. Why? Who
knows! Political agendas no doubt.

To say that we, the German Shepherd exhibitors, are more political than the
rest, is totally ridiculous. Politics is everywhere. It's part of our lives.

To say that we have more breeder judges than any other breed, to me, is a
good thing. Why should that be a negative thing? If that be the case, we are
fortunate to have our breeding properly evaluated. Who would want more
poddle, or bulldog breeders evaluating our animals. Not this breeder judge!

I have always tried to welcome and give what I could to any newbie that
asked. Not matter what I was doing! I know of many, many, more who do the
same.
There are assh--es in ever breed. I acquired a Pom over a year ago. Made
contact with a couple of breeders in the area. Guess what! I was given the
cold shoulder! Go figure. Maybe all Pom people are elitist? I think not.
My son and daughter-in law just purchased a Havanese. $1,500.00, no papers,
and mandatory spaying. Talk to one of these breeders. I tried. DON'T ASK!

Prception? Depends on who is looking, and if they can see reality.

Randy C.

P.S. Laura this post was not personally directed to you. I just used your
post to have a point of reference.
