want to be part of the Parent Club wish to tell the Parent Club how to do
things at our National. Over and over and over, again and again!!!
Our National Show is sponsored by the GSDCA and it's members. We don't
limit participants who are not members of the GSDCA from participating in
our
big show, but do impose certain restrictions for those who wish to attain
Parent Club designations at our National. If a dog has a disqualifying
fault it should not be permitted to compete for our National titles.
Since
it is an AKC dog show they should/must be allowed to compete for various
performance titles as awarded by the AKC and since the AKC doesn't
require
conformation qualification to win such awards that's fine. But if they
don't
meet the requirements for Parent Club designations according to our
Policy
and Procedures Manual or By Laws, then they should not receive such
designations. Changes to the By Laws must be voted on by the membership
and not
simply changed by the then currently reigning Board. Changes to the
Policy
and Procedures Manual should only reflect operational procedures which
have
been determined by the Board for purposes of consistency. Changing the
requirements for National Awards should not be a Board decision. Any
such
changes should go to the members of the GSDCA for approval prior to
implementation.
I sincerely hope the Board will listen to it's membership (and not those
who choose to not be members) and reconsider their vote.

Two excellent posts regarding a recent Board vote, first by Carolyn, and
then another by Zoa, I hope both Ladies will forward them as a letter to
each Board Member. I do believe we have a good board, and I know most
will
listen and consider membership input.
Wether this was presented in a way that made this issue seem less
consequential I don't know. It has created a backlash and I think some
very good
arguments from both sides have been presented. I used to be pretty
closed
minded regarding the White GSD's, but over the years have changed my mind
in
many regards on this topic. BUT, I totally disagree on this White/DQ
issue vote. One of the main "duties" of a Breed Parent Club is to write,
uphold and promote the breed standard, so for the GSDCA to allow dogs
with
"disqualifying" faults win top honors goes against that purpose and
compromises
the integrity of the award as well.
I do hope the Board will re-address this vote, if this was strictly for a
financial gain, it is not worth the price this could eventually cost the
club in the long run. If it is to strictly include the White GSD's and
their
owners, I hope a better solution can be found than to allow all DQ/ILP
dogs to receive a very prestigious award.
