Thanks for bringing it up, Laura. The KC of PS does know how to put on a great
show. Dogs from all over the country were there. I got to meet the breeder of
Uno, the Beagle that won BIS at Westminster 2 years ago. His sire has produced
67 Champions and is still at active stud!! What a great achievement! Met
several people who were bringing out their retired champions, and winning with
them, to earn their Grand Champion titles. A 9 year old Dalmatian, a 9 year
old Schipperke, an 8 year old Beagle, and others, then there were some of the
new breeds at their first shows. The same Xolo won the breed from the classes
(of course) and was pulled in the Group on Sunday. What a gorgeous dog, and
extremely athletic. Watching him jump up on the exam table was amazing! JR
got back-to-back majors on Reggie, the Shiba Inu I was privileged to travel
with and spend time with this past year. I love Reggie and it was fun to watch
him go BOW today. I clapped for him, but, apparently, the local Shiba people
don't clap!! I wasn't too embarrassed!

Since JR's and my agreement was for one year only, as JR has other commitments,
and he always strives to be fair to all of his clients, Harley was handled by
one of his new handlers for 2011, Jorge Olivera, whom he met for the first time
1/2 hour before showtime, and Harley proved, once again, what a professional
showman he is, and won the breed both days, marking his 64th and 65th Best of
Breeds, (four straight Best of Breeds at the last four Palm Springs shows). We
now have four of their beautiful rosettes and four of their beautiful BOB
medallions. Palm Springs IS one of my favorite shows. Riding the tram is part
of the charm, for sure. Great way to meet and great the public, who are full of
intelligent and interesting questions about our dogs. Harley, as usual, held
Court with all who wanted to meet and great him.

Both judges were provisional for GSD's. On Sunday, it was a working group
judge, Victoria Jordan, from Ohio, whom none of us knew. I think she did a
great job. :-) :-) She even put up a bi-color for WD! Saturday we had a GSD
Specialist, our own PC Board member, Ms. Pam O'Dell, in Center Ring. It was an
honor and a privilege to win under Pam. She sure gave all the dogs a good
going over and seemed to be studiously enjoying her assignment very much. When
she pulled Harley out from the Specials Pack, I think it was one of my most
memorable moments....new handler, new judge, first show of the new year leading
us to Westminster, and my handsome dog looking like the sound stallion that he
is!! I screamed, I think!! I was thrilled, to say the least!

It was also fun on Saturday, when one of Harley's co-owners, Tedi Ginsburg, and
her hubby, Evan, were there to see him win and to show his half-brother.
Harley hasn't lived with the Ginsburgs since he was 4 months old, but, I let go
of his lead when Tedi called his name out, and he ran across the parking lot
directly into her arms. It was a most exuberant reunion. He is such a happy
dog, who loves his people very much. My daughter-in-law says that if Harley
could speak, he would sound just like Scooby-Doo! He is such a constant joy in
my life.

Thanks to all who cheered for him in the ring and congratulated me after-wards!
You all mean a lot to me, and I am most grateful to be part of this silly game
we play and compete at and enjoy so very much.

Ok, I know Harley got the Breed. I'll let Paula brag about that :-) But, just
when I thought I had seen everything at dog shows, I saw the most humorous
things this weekend.

I haven't been to that show is about 3 years. They changed the location on the
grounds and parking was a 1/2 mile from the show grounds. They provided
shuttles and a big tram, like at Disneyland. On these trams and golf cart
shuttles transported everything from Danes and Newfies to the toy breeds. Some
with large set-ups chose the unloading area or valet parked and missed the
comedy of watching these dogs and exhibitors riding on these shuttles. The
dogs seemed to love it and it was a sight to see.

Today there were Polo matches going on and I sure wish I had brought my camera.
The dogs and horses and trams and such had all the animals and people watching
each other and some really funny interactions.

Oh, and the food and more importantly, the coffee was awesome! That Kennel
Club of Palm Springs sure knows how to do a show :-)

Laura Thomas
