Up is never a factor Doc Zoe 4-5+ months after their elbows are "done" and NEVER in a group of puppies or dogs. My decision came after a long conversation w/ Dr. King at Steinbach (many on the list know him as a vet who does super x-rays without anesthesia in Ft. Washington PA) Well...he does a LOT with Rotties and they have many more elbow issues than we do and their breeders have learned to avoid detrimental environmental factors and since (with all dogs) so much weight is put on the forehand, to avoid hills (down) steps, etc. during a time when the joint was most vulnerable..... NO, avoiding hill work and steps until 4-5+ months isn't going to keep genetic issues from popping up, but me thinks it CAN make a difference between getting a number and DJD 1 or maybe even FCP. I can get my mind around how damage can be done on steps and steep terrain before (immature) tissue is calcified. I've had a few dogs come here at various ages who didn't "know" steps and in a day or two, all was well.
