According to the vet, his racing days are definitely over... they are trying
now to save his life, and leg so he can still be bred.
I have been trying to see some replay of the incident, but haven't seen a
good one yet. It LOOKS like he might have been clipped by another horse
passing behind him. Can't tell for sure yet.
Racing is a very dangerous 2 minutes of sports. My heart goes out to those
involved.

we were also watching, these are big heavy animals and allot of weight and
pressure is put on a very small place in the leg. This was very sad , and I
hope he can be saved , but I feel sure his racing career is over:-((

I know this is not doggy, but it was with much sadness that I watched and
shed tears for Barbero in the preakness today. His owners must be
devestated. He left the gate far to early to begin with, then he was
re-loaded into the gate, only to take off and fracture his ankle in not one
but 2 places, I am hopeful that they can save him but it is depending on how
much blood flow was lost to the ankle and the foot, while he ran when it was
fractured....I broke down into tears...how sad this is.
