Hi, my beautiful Margarita ( Ch. Jerrwen's Maragrita, ROM) is getting older and is now close to 9 years of age. Approximately 4 days ago, she stopped eating and became less animated. After coaxing, she would eat small amounts. No problem drinking water but the lethargy became progressive, to the point where she would just lay in the house. Anyhow, I took her to the vet and labwork shows she is in renal failure. It seems to be acute since prior to a few days ago, she acted fine. We are in the process of working her up and considering all differential diagnoses. Renal failure requires immediate attention and treatment and is frequently fatal. my question to the List is the following: How many have personal experience w/ either acute or chronic renal failure? What cause/causes were identified? What treatment options were utilized? What was the outcome? Although I am a medical doctor, I have no experience with this condition in dogs.
