A friend of mine called last night to tell me she had a female puppy in her current litter that had PDA. She said it was some kind of heart murmur. She wanted me to ask the list how serious this is. Her vet said he could take the puppy and do surgery then donate it to a facility that will find it a home afterwards. This was her bitches first litter. The stud has sired 1 other puppy with this problem. Now she's concerned if she should keep any puppies from this litter for show or breeding and if she should eliminate both parent dogs from her breeding program. This litter was from a 7 year old bitch and the puppies were born by c-section.
