This is an EXCELLENT article, and explanation of the situation. For anyone who
isn't sure what the PAWS issue is or who wants to understand, in-depth, the
what and why, please do read this article, and please check out the links

The pure-bred dog community is a small one, and word travels quickly. If you
are opposed to PAWS and to the AKC's support of PAWS, please tell everyone you
know in dogs, and refer them to this article. If you are not sure how you feel

If PAWS becomes law, it then opens the door to the 'invaders' to broaden and
extend its coverage, to confuse judges asked to interpret its terms (sadly most
judges totally misunderstand this issue, therefore are easily confused), and
then to be a platform for more legislation, at both the state and federal
levels. It is easy to envision states enacting similar legislation, but with
completely different definitions of who is subject to regulation, with a much
lower bar. It is easy to envision that, next year, in your state, it could be
YOU.....!!
There is often talk on the List about how misinformed the 'public' is about the
German Shepherd Dog, how easily misled they are about issues of temperament,
health, hip dysplasia, breeding and neutering, proper care, etc. etc. Members
of that very same 'public' are members of state legislatures and local
governments, and much more susceptible to the lobbying efforts and slick PR of
the AR groups. If the door is opened by PAWS, they will come rushing through.
Charlotte uses the analogy of Star Wars and the Dark Side. The analogy that
comes to my mind is the Battle of Helm's Deep from Lord of the Rings. Once a
hole was punched in the wall and the scaling ladders were in place, the
onslaught was on, and the hordes of Orcs were inside the fortress, destroying
everything in sight. This is classic warfare strategy, and is now being
unleashed against the dog fancy in full force.
In the movie, reinforcements arrived in time to repel the invaders. In the
real world, we urgently need those reinforcements......!!
