It was the beginning of the home stand in Greeley Colorado, known for people
with strong will and vision. On Saturday the visiting players (heavy hitters
from the west coast) arrived at the park where the grass was green and
neatly trimmed, the lines were chalked, and the boys and girls of summer ready
to
show their mete. Officiating was the esteemed Ken Buxton. The local players
were eager to keep the wins at home. Let's play ball!
The first few innings pass with both the locals and the visitors scoring
base hits, but the intensity builds with the 5th and 6th innings. From the
bottom of the order comes a franchise player, Owen (Terra Norteâ??s Time
Traveler,
PT). His stats show a successful minor league career with 9 points coming
from the Bred-by class. After much discussion between his 2 owners (Val Manning
and Carol Cochran) â?? it is time to move him up to the majors. He comes up to
the plate with his trusty designated runner â?? Sergio Espejo. First base
coach is Val Manning, 3rd base is Doug Richardson with Oak Smith to assist. He
does his down and back, stands rock solid â?? then takes his pitch, and scores
a
run.
We move on to the 7th inning â?? the big enchilada. The bases are loaded when
Owen comes up to the plate. Again his coaches are in place. Sergio guides the
player through his paces, the pitch comes in â?? and the big sable dog hits
one out of the park! The crowd roars - Owen goes winners dog for a 4 point
major.
Day 2, Margorie A. Tuff is officiating. The crowd is restless in the warm
summer morning with higher than normal humidity. Sergio walks to the plate with
Owen looking confident. The team waits for the pitch and again the Owen goes
winners dog for another 4 point major. The crowd roars!!! The big Sable dog
finishes his championship !!!!!
The stats: Owen, Terra Norteâ??s 10th Champion (7th home-bred), received 9
points from the bred-by class, and finishes with back to back 4-point majors.
Special thanks to Sergio for his excellent handling and the phenomenal ring
side support. Now watch for him at the GSDCA Herding trials in October. CH
