it's been difficult for sure. we do have ac/ gvx ruby is glad for that. all
the outside dogs have been swimming in the pond for the summer to keep cool and
it's great for conditioning too! that's how joe got Miami and Ray ready for
the nationals last year. Harry Nile too!!

Given the ongoing discussion re.outdoor dogs and rescue, bonding etc., I

I'd use that discussion as a segue into another issue re. outdoor dogs...
Today, at my house, the heat is brutal. It is around 100 degrees in the shade
ith 50% humidity and a heat index of 117 degrees. All my dogs live in the
ouse, so I'm not worried about them. However, a question for those of you who
eep your dogs outside... How do you keep your dogs cool in weather like this?
I'm not passing judgment; I would really like to know.
ere's what we did when we had two dogs who preferred to live outdoors (some of
hem do). We gave the dogs access to the crawl space. It was cool in the
ummer and warm in the Winter. First, we put down horse mats. Then, we put a
arge x-pen over the mats and fastened it down. Finally we put in a doggie
oor. The dogs stayed very comfortable and loved this living arrangement.
'm curious about how folks keep their dogs cool, but I have another reason for
sking... In the near future, we intend to build a small kennel with
ndoor/outdoor runs. Given the horrendous heat wave this Summer, we're thinking
that we'll have to install a/c when the kennel is built.
