Rebecca......you really need to spend some time away from the east......then you'd know what the rest of the people are talking about. Sad to say that the majority of cattle that produce the beef sold in this country do not get to spend any time on grass--rather, they live as others are describing. Dairy cattle, too, just as Emilie described. (that's not including imported beef, of course) Here in the east we don't have the same kind of cattle industry. Even in Virginia, where the state funded beef cattle industry has the animals out in big fields...on a couple of farms. However, this is no longer the norm for our animal food supply. There are chicken factories all thru the Shenandoah Valley........long barracks-like buildings....the hens never ever ever get to go out and scratch in the dirt.............
