I have a serious question. How, with the population rising and rising and more
and more of it in urban areas, can we feed our nation in the idyllic pastures
of our youths? There are a couple of Dairy Farms out farther in the desert and
there are huge fields, (but being desert, no grazing) There are yards and yards
of feed mangers and that's where the cows hang out. Doesn't look pretty, but
I've driven slowly (curious George) by them, and the cows are nourished, none
look scarred or abused and there is always LOTS of water and shade available
(Although the cows tend to stay out in the sun)
Back to my question.... how do we feed the nation from small dairy farms (even
with great co-ops) and family chicken ranches?

manure is drained into holding tanks to be sprayed onto the fields to raise
corn,hay and other feed. The land is to valuable to hold it for just
grazing,cows are in the parlor 2 time a day for milking, are kept in a small
enclosure when they are dry and calving,and back on the line for milking
when calves are taken off at about 10 days to weeks. and raised for veal or
sent to the auction.
