Finally got back on line and on the List in time to catch this brag below from Val. Always nice to see a surprise brag. Angelina's sister Akaja was at the North West Futurity under Mike Metz and earned second in her Futurity class......we were pleased with how this Cowboy dau. looked..... as was her owner. Stacy Hayano's Mar Haven's Dark Knight won first in the Intermediate Dog class. He is out of our GVx Black Orchid and sired by G.V. Aregon....handled by Zac Hudspeth. Our Mar Haven's Classic In Black was in full season and refused to show well....so we were thrilled that she was Reserve Maturity bitch and took a Major Reserve on Sunday in the pouring Seattle rain. handled by ( a soggy ) Bill Basu. <G> Classy is out of our G.Vx. Black Orchid sired by G.V. Diesel Owned by Linda Kury and myself. Cowboy son ...TURBO ... (CH. Laslar's League Of his Own Of Somerset Rose ) won B.O.M and his sister Chic placed 4th in her Maturity class.....both handled by Nancy McDonald. ( their owners have already bragged ) Our Cowboy daughter Rainy was second in her Futurity class and won her 12 - 18 class both days at the Specialties....handled by Zac Hudspeth. ( she definitely was "Dancing In The Rain" ) Ya gotta love rain to go to these shows........and you must be sure footed enough to run upstream or downstream......<G>........but the Club does a GREAT JOB!! While up North we heard that another Cowboy son became ..CHAMPION Backacher's Cowboy Kid in Southern California......handled from beginning to end by Raul Carillo....YAAAAAAAY!! Congratulations to owner Sharon Pratt and breeder Richard and Liz Sottile. Finally! Got our web site under control and have updated it some...with what photos I have...... Carolyn marhaven@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx www.Marhaven.com From: terranorte@xxxxxxx To: showgsd-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Monday, May 23, 2011 3:43 PM Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] Thanks Pards for the Hospitality & Oklahoma Amateur Futurity Brag What a fun weekend - I left home in flannel lined jeans, my favorite Bogs caked in fresh mud, and lined rain jacket on Thursday night and was able to shed my Colorado spring togs for shorts, shades and sandals. Friday morning in Kansas - the warm weather was closer at hand. When we pulled into OK City on Friday afternoon - it was like going on a tropical vacation. Warm, breezy (at home we have wind), and pleasant enough to bathe dogs outside in shorts. On Friday night - my assistant Bethanie and I ate dinner at a local Italian restaurant within walking distance of the show site called Portifino's. Excellent fare and very reasonably priced. The homemade pasta was fabulous! Saturday morning we prepped for the first of the two shows. These shows were the first speciality experience for the 4 girls we brought and for Bethanie. She is a college student who has been helping me at dog shows for 5 years now, but never at a speciality. What a change in mindset. Instead of insisting on manners and no pulling - we are now encouraging rowdy behavior. Both the dogs and Bethanie seemed to enjoy the change in atmosphere. Had a really great day sitting in the shade and watching the dogs run around the ring. Our girls, while not in the money - had a good time being part of the people and their enjoyed their chances to show. Special Thanks to Oklahoma City and Tulsa clubs who pitched in to make the exhibitors feel welcomed and well fed! Lots of food and drink available all day for three days. Saturday night - Bethanie and I tried the Cimarron Steakhouse, located a long block from the host hotel. My T-bone was excellent and complete with good service and ambiance. On Sunday - it was Futurity Day. Bright blue skies and singing birds greeted the show site. First off was the Amateur Fut/Mat classes. It is so hard to compete against the accomplished professional handlers who run their legs off daily and has been working with their charges consistently to insure appropriate behavior..... but it is also so hard to compete against these jrs. who run their legs off daily and work with their dogs consistently..... may have to ask for the "over 25 with wild hooligans'" class. I am fortunate to say that after running around the ring successfully a few times for the class and then for the finals, managing not to fall down or drop the leash, Mrs. Miller pointed to my girl: Mar Haven's Evanglina of Terra Norte' for Amateur Best in Futurity. Thank you for seeing Lena's attributes despite my handling and presentation. Also thank you to Carolyn Martello for sending this black & tan bundle of energy to Colorado. Special kudos to the Southwestern region for taking on the mantel and offering the Amateur classes. The long drive home was much lighter with a big fancy ribbon, beautiful plaques and a good start on my tan ...... ~ Val Manning Terra Norte' GSD Rancho Terra Norte' Wellington, CO ============================================================================ POST is Copyrighted 2011.
