Years ago, pictures were cheaper, but so was everything else. Back them, clients sometimes bought many pictures of special or first wins, to share with co-owners, breeders, etc. Today there is a whole new technology available to the general public. Many people buy only the minimum order and then make additional copies for extraneous uses. There is really no way the photographer can prevent this. Trademarks on the picture use to prevent people from going to copy shop and having a copy made. Today you can do it at home. That should cause photographers to charge a premium price for the first picture, and then perhaps a cut rate for multiple copies. I also buy a lot of boat racing photographs, and those are delivered to us at the shows in a 12 X 16 size and cost about $30.00 each. That large size, obviously is harder to copy, and the photographers have web sites where you can order a disc if you want to make reprints. Carol **************Get trade secrets for amazing burgers.
