It maybe(to some) a waste of time to watch but it wasn't organized to watch,
but to give newcomers a chance to compete without going head-head with the
biggies.

I would like to take this time to point out a few things:
Yes, The SouthEast and the SouthWest were both very small futurities. I
was at the SouthWest and let me assure you that it was filled with QUALITY
DOGS and no fillers. It is probably not wise to have two futurities on the
same weekend and I'll try to not let that happen in the future. IT is also
not wise to schedule on Easter weekend. These 2 factors probably had a
definite impact this weekend.-
Many breeders on the West Coast, esp., have told me that they are breeding
few litters because there is not much of a market for pet puppies. This is
a responsible action. Specialty shows across the country are also
smaller. And the point count continues to drop. But that does not mean than
we
should discontinue specialty shows and all go to the all breeds. The
classes at specialties and at futurities are filled with quality animals.
Yes, I think the Futurity still represents the breeders, and the best they
produce. They are still an opportunity to observe what sires, especially
the younger ones, are producing
I find it very disappointing that after Nancy Harper developed the Amateur
Futurity to help attract newcomers to showing in the futurity system on an
even footing, many people called it a waste of their time to watch .
I think it still has value if promoted correctly
Please do communicate you ideas to Kathy Potter. I know there are great
ideas lurking out there
