Mostly I agree with Peggy. I never liked having an OFA class at our national, a dog certified by OFA that then went into winners to compete for points. I argued against it when I was on the board, but I was outvoted. I also didn't see anything wrong with doing it, and I even entered a dog in the OFA class, (Big Ben) to support the board's decision. I knew at the time he was not that judge's type of dog. I see no harm in a long coat class, but as I asked, who is going to determine what is a long coat? Kirk has a full coat, but it sure isn't a long coat, and we got that without breeding a long coat into our breeding program. The AKC does allow us to hold a class with any limitation we want. As I understand this suggestion to our board, it is to allow an extra class for long coats at our national, and then they go to compete with the other class winners for points. It is silly. But, if it makes someone happy, I say, go for it. It does no harm to our breed, it is not an insult to the German shepherd, (although it does showcase something our standard denies), and it give four more ribbons to give out and four more people who can smile at the show. Who will spend the money and time to bring a long coat to the national is yet to be seen. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Evan L. And why do we have to do what the Germans do, anyway? ============================================================================ POST is Copyrighted 2011.
