The snotty ringside comments about others' dogs... you don't have to
like them all... but you aren't the one taking them home. How
disheartening is it for someone new or returning to the breed or has
been in the breed for years to hear their dog or others' being ripped to
pieces? Everyone is entitled to their opinions... sharing them is not a
necessity if it can't be done with some grace. My sister was visiting
from Norway - her first dog show in America... and all she heard was
mean, nasty comments. She was shocked! --------
--------Scammed, lied to, left out, talked about, basically told I don't know a
dog, never had anything good, never will, will never finish anything, just
because I told someone that a dog I purchased did not turn out, so I would not
show it. All out smear campaign. Seriously. Not that I have a lot, but if
you've ever seen my dogs then you know I have something decent here. And even
if, why would you say that to someone? I've been breeding show rabbits for a
year now, I am a card carrying member of three rabbit clubs, and I get my
money's worth. I have made more genuine friends (and quite a few that quit
showing dogs for this reason) in the past year than I have made in the six
years since I started. I am still showing dogs, Chopper's son recently got a
major, but it will never hold the same interest as it did when I first started.
All I can say is way to go GSD world, you've lost another young show breeder.
3) Honesty.... many people are not upfront. They
are not honest about health issues, they are not honest about their
expectations, they are not honest in their dealings with other breeders,
handlers, buyers, exhibitors, etc. When you ask some people about their stud
dogs - you do not get a strait answer. You have to ask 20
questions, cross examine and then investigate. Some are very upfront -
and yes I know you can (and I have) chosen to deal with those that are
upfront. In a breed facing many health issues, honesty is especially
paramount. ------
One thing I have learned breeding rabbits--there are some things that should
never leave my barn, not even as pets. I have seen/heard/experienced way too
much, and breeders not willing to own up to it. Is the dollar really that more
important than your conscience?
