I do think most of us are aware of all the color variations possible in this
Breed. Looking
back at it's development of the GSD, one can understand why they are lurking
there.
SO... since they all have the same DNA does that make it acceptable??
According to
your theory......then ALL those colors and patterns should be acceptable
because they
are in the GSD DNA.
Yet that is not the case in ANY Breed of dog that I know of. There are always
color and
pattern restrictions.......accepted by those who choose that particular Breed
and Breed
Standard.
In this Breed....a small white patch.....a white dog. One not a
problem.....one a disqualification....
An ear that tilts in......or a hound ear. A close bite.....or a Bull Dog
bite.......etc., etc....

NO ONE can argue with your point about dyeing.......for sure!! <G>

In here is where the prolem is. MOST breeders have no clue about the various
"possible" colors
within their breed. MOST don't really care either.

Like when I think of a black and tan, and I don't picture a black and tan
with some white on its chest.
But, I have seen them. And, how many AKC Champions have an unacceptable
amount of white on
them, and were dyed to be shown? Talking about unethical or misleading the
public.

And, why am I seeing more and more AKC Champions with alot of white on them?
Especially, when
those lines carry no white ancestors?

Personally, I feel BEFORE any breeder should speak about a subject regarding
their breed, in this
case its color, they should have a thorough knowledge of color genetics.
The colors you ar seeing
have always been in the GSD color genetics but some have only come to light
within the last
  20 years or so.

Take Labradors as an example - Black, yellow and chocolate - right? Did
you know that the Labrador can also be a reddish color? Those are registered
as yellows and actually shown and finish their AKC championships. Some of the
"yellows" are as red as Irish Setters, with no yellow on them. There are a
couple of breeders that only breed for the "fox red" Labrador. The "yellow"
Labrador can also be solid white and shown as a "yellow". There are Labrador
breeders who breed and show "white" Labradors and show them and finish their
AKC championships.

So, if you know that colors are being registered as something they are not,
don't you think it is going to bite you in the butt one day? How many GSDs
have been registered as the wrong color, perhaps by accident, perhaps so no one
would know, and don;t you think we are now seeing the results of this?

Cindy McCann (Panda Lady) did the right thing when she bred her AKC
registered GSD to an AKC registered GSD and got something not expected. She
called the sire's owner and they had DNA testing done on the litter. I do
believe that breeding was repeated, and the same results.

Jackie - thank you for sharing your color knowledge. Good breeders should
always be learning about
  their breed.

*They are not selling German Shepherds they are selling genatic lab
reations and passing them off as German Shepherds Uh, this isn't true at
all.
lue is an uncommon, but not unknown color of GSD. You can register them
as GSDs, because they are GSDs. At one point, they were acceptable for
conformation exhibition, so it's really not much of an argument.

Tan GSDs are black and tan with completely faded out pigment. There's a
far more in depth explanation as to some of the other solid colors that
appen, but I don't know the entirety of the genetics (I can find out,
  hough).
