I agree with your statement that good breeders should always be learning about
their breed. That learning should begin with the Breed Standard. I also
strongly believe that good breeders should follow the Breed Standard set forth
by their AKC parent club, in this case the GSDCA. A good breeder is not one
who throws the Standard out the window because they happen to like something
else. I have been learning a lot about breeders who are intentionally breeding
for color faults in the Breed Standard. I don't like what I am learning, and I
will not support its proliferation under the auspices of the GSDCA if given an
opportunity to vote on these types of decisions. There are other organizations
that provide opportunities for these dogs to compete in both conformation and
obedience and to complete championships and win top awards which include both
conformation and performance victor and victrix awards. I am just one GSDCA
member, but I would
like to have an opportunity to vote on the important issue of whether to grant
top GSDCA performance awards to dogs with DQ faults under our Standard. And I
certainly expect to be given a right to vote if our Mission Statement or
Standard are to be altered in any way.
