You are lucky that you have several herding facilities within reach.
We have a rather active herding group around Portland, OR, with a lot of the
tending style of herding being done by a number of the tending breeds. But GSDs
are becoming the most popular breed at this herding facility. There are also
several herding facilities in the greater Seattle area (greater in size only!)
and a new tending facility is being set up there also.
Tending (C-course) is the native style of herding for this breed, however
since it requires more sheep, more room, and is limited to far fewer runs/day
at a trial, it is not as common.
But it is a terrific way to watch this breed work. There are quite a few A
course and some B course participants up here also. It may be too far to
commute, but there are some week-long herding camps held here and a number of
clinics per year that would be worth while attending. And we have large trials
set up for June, July and August, June and July being hosted by GSD specialty
clubs.

do it"...I lived in the college dorms at that time and a bunch of us went to
see it.....what's this have to do with herding?...hey.... if I could control my
