Could it be that many of the bitches had better structural attributes than
the sire?Back when I started in dogs..you took a bitch and bred upward..you
didn't take a bitch and hoped she carried the load. Ideally you took a well
bred bitch and bred her to a dog who had proven that he could produce with
bitches that were well bred of average quality. The dog was usually
superior to or equal to the quality of the bitch. I can think of no other
venue of animal husbandry where the female of the species is bred to a
lesser male...what usually happens is any quality is passed on through the
daughters..not the sons..perhaps this why so many can't find many dogs to
breed to???? Just a thought and a bit of an observation. Christine
