When I first saw your post, Kim, I thought - Oh, good - she is going to post the ROM dams (which, as I recall, was done in the past to the List) OK - so that was not the case. I personally am not in favor of changing the requirements. Connie Beckhardt was VERY not in favor of changing the requirements. If anyone out there does not remember Connie, you missed knowing a great lady ! I don't think breeding only one or two litters a year has anything to do with having an ROM bitch. I HAVE bred MORE than one or two litters a year, and most of the puppies went into pet homes, because I am not into keeping puppies until they are 6 months old or older. To have an ROM bitch, you have to think you know what you are doing, and be very lucky. I am grateful for Barbara Amidon's advice over the years. I have had several ROM bitches, and the first one I had was Karizma's Gallina. I did not realize she was close or already an ROM until Mary Ellen Kish called me and hollered at me - "what is the matter with you, don't you care that your bitch is now an ROM ??? blah, blah, blah" - I bred her with dogs I thought she would produce with - and lo and behold ! she did ! So, on that note, since Ms. McNamara isn't announcing it, I am very very pleased to announce that my Libby is Number One living producing bitch ! Or is it Top Living Producing bitch ? MVX CH Karizma's Liberia Von Loar OFA ROM Sure wish I could breed her one more time - and the last time I wanted to breed her, the stud dog owner told me her dog was "busy" - can you imagine ???????????? Apparently there is a school of thought that it is too easy? I'd like to hear other breeders' opinions. I don't think it's too easy - I've never had one, maybe because I can't breed my girls all that often. To get 2 Champions and 2 Qualifiers is doable if I set a goal and try hard.... to get 3 champions and 3 qualifiers - probably out of reach of those of us who only have 1 or 2 litters a year. There is more wrongness here, if what I was told was correct. First - the ROM dam chairs were not consulted. Really? Cappy and Gloria have done this job for awhile, and a decision like this is made without their input? Before them it was Maryellen Kish and before her it was Connie Beckhardt and I'm told in the past this was tried and they fought it as much as they could! Second - word is someone is trying to push this change through at the July Board meeting - yes this month - before any of us have a chance to offer our opinions. Seriously? Is this Board back to act first, get input after? How do we manage the title if this change goes through? New ROMs are ROMs and old ROMs on the 2/2 system get an asterisk? I do the ROM sections in the Red Book, and there are 55 dams on the first page of the Active ROM dams list. Do the 16 of them who don't have 6 qualifiers get the boot? I'm not even sure I understand what is driving this move. Are the plaques too expensive? Are the Review pages too difficult to print correctly? OK, so it takes very few dogs to make a major now - but are we finishing that many more champions? I don't think so - majors are still hard to come by and to win. The ROM system is what it is; it is our tradition and changing it now is a bad idea. At least, that's my opinion - what's yours?
