This is being posted at the request of Linda Kury.  Is there someone who is
in the area, or who has contacts with the Suffolk County NY Police and/or
Canine Unit who can investigate ?

The Suffolk County Police of New York are going to auction off one of their
German Shepard as "surplus property" because Chief can no longer perform his
job.  An article was written about Chief in the Friday edition of Newsday.
Chief is a 61/2 year old German Shepard that the Suffolk Police no longer
want and he will be sold at a public auction to the highest bidder with no
consideration as to the type home he will go to.
 
In speaking to various county officials, no thought of him as a loving,
caring and feeling animal, but simply as surplus pproperty to be sold.
 
the person in charge of the auction is Charles Bartha, Suffolk Commissioner
of the Department of Public works, 631-852-4010, fax 631-852-4165.
