Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] New Champion

(Hang with me, I feel like I'm giving an Academy Award speech. ;) I have no
problem with going on and on and on...I'll try my best to keep it short. And
this isn't so much about MY dog becoming a champion, but the journey along the
way. It's about YOU! Please allow me to pat your back for awhile!)
Jeff and I would like to thank an unbelievable amount of people that have
encouraged us, patiently taught us (and continue to teach), and who have become
wonderful friends along the way. With so much sincerity and gratefulness, we
are so thankful for those who have walked beside us as we came into the "dog
show word" so very green.

Many thanks Dawn Van Dyken for trusting us with her beautiful boy...and for the
first bit of advice to stay true to who we are as people once we enter into
this world. She and Ann Newell, her co-breeder and friend, have been with us
every step of the way....both amazing woman. Thanks ladies!

Secondly, our club The Wolverine German Shepherd Dog Club of West Michigan.
Where would we be without you!?!? We are one big family...dysfunctional
sometimes yes, but aren't all families at times? Michelle Graham has
encouraged us on our way and is our dog "Mom." (Mic, we love you!) Jon
Beyer...he is such a dear friend...so much passion about our breed and care for
his own animals (someone to always look up to!) Larry and Hazel's gentleness
and years of wisdom; it is an honor to be in their presence. I could list
them all individually...they know who they are, and I hope they all know what a
special and profound place they have in our hearts.

I'm not gonna lie...it's not all been sunshine and roses (pardon the
clich.) We've had some rough spots...we've been witness to some
not-so-on-the-up-and-up things. For a brief moment, discouragement sets
in. It would be easy to become disillusioned, broken-hearted, and just give
up. Thankfully however, so much more goodness supersedes the bad! Good
sportsmanship IS alive and well...picking up the fallen and dusting them off to
point them in the right direction. YOU are so GREAT at this!!

Handlers and judges....what a group of people, huh? I wouldn't want their
jobs in a million years. (I tried handling once and failed miserably...my
legs can do it, but my heart can't...and I'm not speaking physically. I
can't take the personal strain, the nerves, the all the people watching, the
what if I screw up...can't take it. Maybe someday when I get over myself,
I'll try again.) Kudos to all of you who are brave enough to do it and who
do it well! I've learned that handling is NOT AS EASY AS THEY MAKE IT
LOOK!!

Jeff Pyle and Diane Brown...you two are on the list of my dog world heroes, not
because you've put points on my dog (and I thank you so much for that!), but
because of who you are as people. Diane, your integrity is unmatched.
Keep it up...keep going...and keep living out who you are in front of us
all. Jeff...what can I say to you...I'm seriously getting a little teary.
I feel like I've met a kindred spirit....karaoke and all. ;)

And judges...you stay honest, resilient, brave, and thoughtful. How do you
do it with all the "judges" on the outside of the ring? Either you're crazy
and a glutton for punishment, or you love this breed so much and you
desperately want our breed to have a successful tomorrow. I have appreciated
the judges who take the time to say what they liked or didn't necessarily like
about each dog at a show. It's a teachable moment! Please take it!! I
love learning from you! A few stick out in my mind, but I won't embarrass
you by pointing you out....I think you know who you are. We've had
conversations, dinners after shows, and parties in the snow. Thank
you...thank you.

And countless more friends along the way...Joyce, Denise, Jason, Amy, Chris,
Kelly, Toby, Linda, Nick, Ann, Ariel, Olivia...etc....the list goes on. You
are all pretty awesome folks. Thanks for being wonderful examples to us and
such wonderful friends.

With all that, we are pleased to announce our first Champion, our first show
dog, our first, "lets get more serious about this dog stuff...." (And of
course, AKC pending...) Ch. Dawnhill's Zomer Wit v. Winstrom TC. Thanks
Jeff Pyle for finishing him today in Novi Michigan...wish I could have been
there with you all!
