I talked at length with Carol Moore, (with Dave Rinke), at the Futurity I attended in Ohio, (I think it was Ohio, but it might have been Indiana). I then sent a letter with the suggestion, and set it out on the List. I didn't know only what was in the box was to be considered. If you want a copy of the idea, let me know. I just figured it was considered and rejected. I never heard anything back, but I also put it on the List. In short the idea was to increase the number of Futurities to 12 or 14. Then have six semi-finals after those for the winners only. In that way there would be more local futurities to help clubs increase the show entries. People would not have to travel as far or as often to a Futurity. Then if they won, they would be willing to go a bit further if needed to enter into the semi-finals. The winners of the semi-finals would go to the National. That would make 18 Futurity/Maturity shows to back up to club shows. It would increase the overall national entry, and give local people another chance to go to a "national" type event. It would bring in more money for the clubs, bring in more money for the GSDCA, give more service to the members, and increase the exposure of our breed to the public if advertised that there was a national semi-final with the winners from other shows to be shown. I know people would want to go to that. But, since I never got a response, I supposed there was a down side, and the idea was rejected. I have no problem with that. I just made the suggestion. I have great faith in the Futurity Committee, I served on it for years. I give total credit to the board and those who are willing to serve and believe they will do the best they can for our breed. I am pleased with the new members, and support the club, the board and the Futurity Committee in all they do. If anyone wants more suggetions, I will give them, and in the future be sure to put them in a box. I just felt a face to face discussion was better than just puting something in a box. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
