I would have to agree Diane. I have avoided saying it, but showing at
almost any level is becoming a "rich man's game" I am sure I will get
beat up
over that comment, but it is economics and look at who the wonderful
handlers
are and is not a slam on them, it all comes down to "opportunity cost"
and
many of us do have that luxury, bless those that do; I mean that
sincerely....

Unfortunately, Steven, I tend to agree with what you've said. showing
dogs used to be a rich man's game and I think it is becoming that
again. So, we have to find a way to turn the tide. How can we CUT
expenses? Going to shows that are clustered saves money. Finding
handlers that will give breaks (reduced puppy fees, etc) would help.
I know that I've been training my 2 puppies to lead out--a few years
ago, I would've sent them "to camp" for a month or so--that would be
quite expensive for me to do now. Now that I'm retired, I can meet a
handler at the shows--in the past, I would send the dog--more money to
do it THAT way. I don't know a lot of people in NC yet, but I imagine
I will: Maybe then I could carpool--go to shows with a friend--again
cutting expenses. The alternative would be to stop showing and I AM
NOT WILLING TO DO THAT.
