[ SHOWGSD-L ] Neutered male dog fights

Hello listers,
Once again I find myself coming to you for advice. My sister has a 2.5 year
old golder retriever and a 5ish year old black lab mix. They are out of town
this weekend and my mother (who is watching their baby and house) called this
evening in a panic. The dogs had been in a HUGE fight. The lab mix is
normally very docile, but he was apparently the one doing the a** kicking. It
was bad enough that water didn't even phase him so my mother had to whack him
with a broom to get the lab to let go. The golden doesn't have the best
temperament, but that's what happens when you buy from a pet store (and yes, I
tried to stop them from buying him as a pup). My question is this, how likely
is it these dogs, very close friends normally, will do this again? Second,
because the lab seemed to be the aggressor (although were not sure who or what
started it), is it likely he will now be more aggressive? Third, any chance of
keeping these dogs,
especially when you throw a 10 month old baby into the mix.
Thankfully, no humans were hurt tonight, but my sister is now extremely
concerned primarily for the safety of her baby and she loves both dogs and
would hate to give one, or both away.
I would greatly appreciate any feedback that I can pass along. Honestly, I'm
stunned at the whole event. I didn't think neutered males would fight this
nasty with each other!
