I'm sorry I added that line because after posting it I realized it
was ambiguous. The key phrase was "relative to their competition".
I am not criticizing judges or today's movement. I see a lot of
judges able to pick the best moving dog in a group of dogs. Many
judges can pick out the one who best conforms to the Standard: is
most balanced, has the best mid-piece, extends well, covers the most
ground, etc. My point is I don't see the elastic, cat like motion I
described. Gait has changed. Is today's movement incorrect? I am
not saying it is. I say I prefer a different kind of gait than what
I see in the ring today. That is why I said I did not want to get
into a debate. The top winning animals we see today are not
necessarily incorrect, they just gait differently in my opinion than
the movement I described in my post. You say the dog that covers the
most amount of ground with the minimum number of steps...how could
there be a question? Well, yeah who doesn't know that? A dog can
have correct conformation and be a good mover relative to other
contemporary dogs and still not move in the way I described.
Correct conformation as form does not necessarily lead to function
when it comes to suspension.
