From what I was told, the situation of the poles and obedience / rally rings
was discussed at the July Board meeting. It was at that meeting that it was
decided to have the rings placed outside where agility was being held. There
was also discussion has to how to handle poor weather conditions.
Unfortunately, the July Board minutes have not been posted to the GSDCA website
as of this morning.
Maybe someone that was there could elaborate or if Molly was there, maybe she
can offer comments from her notes <VBG>.

Below is a cut and paste from the BOG that was sent to the membership, but I am
sure the minutes would go into more detail.

....."It is recommended that an Obedience Chair be included in the site
inspections
unless there is someone on the Board who is very familiar with putting on an
obedience trial."........

If I am not mistaken, at the CO National we had a similar problem with poles in
the ring and had to decrease by one ring which changed judging schedules.

I have been competing at Nationals for about 25 years, at which time the only
performance area was Obedience, however over the years the Performance areas
have grown (along with entries) as we see a decline in the conformation
entries. We pay the same entry fee yet we are not given the same considerations
when selecting a site. We also come with multiple dogs, some by car while
others fly, we stay at the same hotels and eat at the same restaurants, so our
expenses are relatively the same. Many of us also attend the entire week. I
think it's time that we receive equal consideration and ring conditions when
selecting a site.

I think someone said that to move the stalls would have been cost prohibitive.
Those are the little things in a contract that will kill you. Had they know
that up front they may have searched for another location. There is no excuse
for not knowing that the poles in the area would prevent the area being used
for performance. That was just plain stupid. Or they show committee just
doesn't care. Maybe if they put a new rule in that says if the agility and
obedience are outside so shall conformation. I bet that would fix the problem.

I am now confused- If I am wrong I am sure some one will correct me.
It
is my understanding that herding chose their site area in Fort Collins,
Texas, and in Ohio. The sites they were at was their choice. Not the
Show
chairmans this is where the herding chairman and committee wanted it. So
what is there to improve on? Make them bring sheep into the area where the
rest of the exhibitors are?

Yes obedience, agility etc was in a terrible weather condition. I don't
quite remember but think there was a problem with the original location
Poles or something. Big mistake bet it doesn't happen again- so when it
was realized what the situation was - what else should have been done to
correct it

No complains about herding, that was my decision, and my total joy to
experience with my bitch. No regrets. Wana do sheeps, will most likely get cold

and dirty.

My point was: Obedience, Rally, Agility.....these venues should've been
held indoors. Their conditions were terrible. We wanted to watch, but
decided to go inside instead and get out of the bad weather.

What could've been done to correct this? I saw half the stall area
unused. Those stalls could've been closed, and that area made available to
these
competitors.

As I am training with my dogs to do performance events, I would've been
very disappointed, and most likely would've pulled my dogs rather than show in
those conditions.

Food for thought.
